Digital File Requirements

We support all digital camera media and more, including:Compact Flash, SD, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, xD, USB, PC Card, ZIP** 100PC, 250PC, 750PC, Floppy, CD* or DVD*?

*CDs and DVDs must be finalized. We support DVD+r, DVD-r, and DVD+/-.

**We do not accept Mac-formatted Zip Disks.

File Types

We can print directly from the following image files:

Jpeg (.jpg), Bitmap (.bmp), single layer or flattened Tiff (.tif [PC Only])) , single layer or flattened Photoshop Document (.psd,.pdd)

We are able to convert from these file types (file prep charge applies):

Layered .tif or .psd, Photoshop PDF (.pdf ,.pdp), Compuserve GIF (.gif), Ping (.png) and targa (.tga)`

We do not print or convert from camera-raw files.¸

All files must be RGB (no CMYK, no greyscale), 8-bit color.File-Prep charges apply for any file-type or color-mode conversion.

'Save As' Image saving recommendations:

Save tiff files with Compression set to NONE and Byte Order set to IBM PC.Save jpeg files Quality set to 10 (lowest compression) and Format Option set to Baseline (standard).

Tip: If you plan on opening, editing and re-saving a file more than once, save as a tiff or bitmap instead of jpeg. Jpegs suffer quality degradation each time they are altered and re-saved.

Size, Resolution & Cropping

What size should it be?

It's best to leave the size and resolution of your digital picture as-is. If you have to crop, maintain the proper proportion.

If you're creating a graphic document, make it a common photo size like 4x6. If you need a custom size, we can print that too, just let us know when you order.

What resolution is best?

Again, if possible, don't change the resolution of your digital picture.

If you're creating a graphic document, we recommend 300 ppi [pixels per inch]. Our lab is capable of printing photos up to 8x12 at a max resolution of 400ppi and giclee enlargements up to 360ppi.

Cropping

If you are cropping your images, use an application that supports proportion-correct cropping. We recommend Photo Finale or Adobe Photoshop .

Color Management

Since all cameras and monitors record and display color a little differently, it's usually best to leave color correction to us.

I'd like to color correct my own images.

We have several tools available which allow you to edit and enhance your digital images as you order including in-store kiosks, free online albums and free desktop software. If you prefer editing in other applications such as Adobe Photoshop, feel free to contact our lab manager for recommendations using color managed or unmanaged workflow to ensure accurate color.

Color correcting at home without color management.

Follow these steps to ensure that you're working in a digital-photo-friendly environment:Use sRGB or AdobeRGB as your default color space (where applicable). Do not convert images to other color spaces when opening, and do not imbed ICC Profiles other than sRGB or AdobeRGB when saving. View your monitor in subdued lighting with minimal glare. View prints in daylight or light that is as close to daylight balance as possible. Print a few test images at our lab, then compare to the digital images on your monitor and note any differences. These differences should be accounted for when color correcting future images.

Limit of Liability

We are not responsible for corrupt or lost file data. Always back-up your data before submitting to print agencies. Be aware that color characteristics, especially computer-generated colors, may vary from monitor-preview to print. We recommend proofing images in print before ordering quantity or enlargements. Our sales associates are available with tools to preview and edit your images before submission. Contact lab manager for recommendations in editing, saving and preparing images for print.
